What to Watch: What Happened, Miss Simone?

Who doesn't love Nina Simone's voice? What a magical, substantial presence. Netflix has brought us her story--complete with never-before-heard recordings, archival footage, interviews with her family, contemporaries, friends. 

It's a really special, heartbreaking, wonderful look at a legendary artist. I wasn't that familiar with Nina Simone's activism, her struggles with mental health, or really any of her life story before watching this movie and I was completely enthralled. Hearing from her daughter was heartbreaking. Hearing about how critical she was of herself was difficult. Learning about how she became the artist and how the artist was just her full embodiment of herself was so compelling.
